08 Oct God the Holy Spirit For You

“No one understands, no one seeks for God” (Romans 3:11). If the apostle Paul is right, then how do you and I ever come to God? How can we ever “know” God? Well, not by our efforts or self-endeavors, that’s for certain. God must come to us. God must open our blind eyes of faith. God must not only call us but also must come and get us and draw us to himself (John 6:44). That’s exactly what He does. God uses particlular means to do it – His Word of Gospel and His Holy Spirit! Martin Luther gets it right in his explanation of the third article of the Apostles Creed. God is at work in you and for you by making you holy and keeping you in faith. God never tires of forgiving us our sins and will keep on doing so until we are raised in glory to live with him forever. All of God, all of grace, all for you!

The Third Article: Sanctification

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

What does this mean? I believe that I cannot by my own reason or strength believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to Him; but the Holy Spirit has called me by the Gospel, enlightened me with His gifts, sanctified and kept me in the true faith. In the same way He calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies the whole Christian church on earth, and keeps it with Jesus Christ in the one true faith. In this Christian church He daily and richly forgives all my sins and the sins of all believers. On the Last Day He will raise me and all the dead, and give eternal life to me and all believers in Christ.



This is most certainly true.
